Hunan Province

There are several interesting places to visit in China's Hunan Province. In the west is the Zhangjiajie nature reserve. The reserve boasts some of China's most bizarre mountain scenery and the area is home to the Tujia, Miao and Bai people, who have still largely maintained their traditional cultures and ways of living. The capital of the Hunan province is Changsha and there are numerous Maoist pilgrimage places scattered all around it. 90 km southwest of Changsha is the town of Shaoshan, where Mao Zedong was born. The city of Yueyang in the north of Hunan is a major stop for cruises on the Yangzi River.
