La Coruña, or A Coruña in Galician, is a fairly large town in Galicia, in the northwestern corner of Spain, some 510 km northwest of Madrid. La Coruña boasts various Romanesque churches, a synagogue and an interesting old quarter which offers a unique contrast between almost fragile buildings and massive stone palaces.
The city's beautiful Town Hall is located on the city's central square, Plaza de Maria Pita. The Castillo de San Anton is an old fort near the waterfront and a few kilometers out of town is Europe's oldest standing Roman lighthouse, Torre de Hercules. Most buildings on the waterfront are erected in the typical style of the region with many small windows, instead of just a few large ones. There are numerous lush parks throughout the city.
There is plenty of accommodation in La Coruña, as well as numerous bars and restaurants. The city has rail and road connections with the rest of Spain.
