La Gomera

The island of La Gomera is characterized by its 1487 m high central massif that drops steeply into the sea. The island's Alto de Garajonay is protected as a National Park. Of particular interest are the population's ancient and original popular customs, one of which is the 'whistling language' that people from different valleys use to communicate with each other.

La Gomera features several nice beaches. Playa de Santiago is a picturesque small fishing village with a fine beach and crystalline water. At the exit of Valle Gran Rey, a valley with important plantations, you will find one of the island's best beaches. At Vallehermoso is another fine beach.

San Sebastián de la Gomera is the island's capital.
