Most people come to München for the beer festival that is held there every year in Oktober, but the city has much more to offer than beer and sausage alone. There are numerous wide boulevards lined with magnificent buildings and many nice parks, including the largest city park in Europe, the Englischer Garten. The city center can easily be explored on foot. München has Germany's highest theatre density and there are many fine museums as well.
The Deutsches Museum is home to the world's largest science and technology exposition. Many interesting scientific experiments can be done by the visitors themselves, but others are only demonstrated.
München is an excellent place to stay if you want to visit the Bavarian Alps. They can be seen from the city on clear days. Excursions to the mountains are widely available, as well as those to Dachau, where the nazis used to have one of their concentration camps during WWII. There are numerous small Bavarian villages in the vicinity of München that are well worth a visit.
There are many hotels, hostels, bars, restaurants and above all beer halls in München. The city is the main transportation hub for southern Germany and connections to a wide variety of destinations are widely available. München is 510 km southwest of Berlin.
