Malakal Island
Malakal is a small island just across from Koror. It is the location of the research marine lab, known as the Micronesia Mariculture Demonstration Center. Efforts to conserve endangered marine species are undertaken there and one of the greatest achievements so far is the cultivation of giant tridacna clams. There are numerous tropical aquariums that are worth a look and it is a good way to learn more about marine life in the area.
From nearby Malakal Hill there are excellent views over the island, as well as the Rock Islands. Most people stay in Koror and visit Malakal Island on a day trip.
