Meghalaya
The state of Meghhalaya, which means 'Abode of Clouds', encompasses one of the wettest places on earth. It is one of India's smallest states and was created in 1971. Meghalaya is home to several different tribes, including the Khasia, Jantia and Garo. The state's scenic capital is called Shillong.
Not far outside the capital are several waterfalls, as well as the Shillong Peak, which provides good views from its 1960 m high summit.
Meghalaya is north of Bangladesh.
