Mitsoudjé lies 30 km south of Moroni on Grande Comore's southwestern coast. Most people visit the town for its wood carvings.
You will see a lot of tombstones everywhere in Mitsoudjé. The reason for this is that the people from the town think they are protected from djinns (evil spirits) by the spirit of a holy man from the nearby village of Iconi. The story goes that this holy man promised to protect the town that built him a tomb. When he died, the people from Mitsoudjé buried his body in their town and built loads of fake tombs to prevent the inhabitants of other villages from finding and stealing it.
Accommodation is available in Mitsoudjé and the only way to get there is by taxi-brousse (bush taxi).
