Mljet Island
Mljet Island lies about 10 km off the Croatian coast, between Korcula and Dubrovnik. The northeastern part of the ialnd is occupied by the Mljit Nacionalni Park. The park includes two saltwater lakes and is covered with pines. In a small island in the largest lake is a 12th-century Benedictine monastery that has been converted into a hotel.
The pines forests are excellent for hiking and biking, while you can swim and sunbathe at the lakes. Since there is little accommodation on Mljet Island, most people visit it on a day trip from Dubrovnik. Ferries between that city and the island run several times a day.
