Mosquitia



Mosquitia covers a huge area of pristine wilderness in the northeast of Honduras. The region is inhabited by small groups of Miskito, Paya and Sumo Indians and it boasts an abundant wildlife. Animals that roam Mosquitia include alligators, manatees, monkeys and a wide variety of birds. Large parts of the area are protected by the Río Plátano Nature Reserve.

There is no infrastructure in Mosquitia, you will have to carry in your own supplies and eat and sleep with the locals. Boat trips on the area's rivers and lagoons are available.
