North Cascades National Park is in the Cascade Range in the north of Washington. It covers 204,436 hectares (504,781 acres) of high jagged peaks, glaciers, icefalls, hanging valleys and mountain lakes in high glacial cirques. The alpine scenery is absolutely outstanding.
Western slopes in the region are mostly rainy, with rain forests and other luxuriant vegetation, while the eastern slopes are drier. North Cascades National Park was established in 1968 and is adjoined by Lake Chelan and Ross Lake national recreation areas.
North Cascades National Park is some 220 km northeast of Olympia and 3600 km northwest of WAshington D.C.
