Oiseaux du Djoudj National Park (Jolan Djourd)
The Maka-Diama dam in the Sénégal River ensures that the Oiseaux du Djoudj National Park has water all year round. The park is in the northwestern corner of Senegal, 230 km northeast of Dakar. The best time to visit is during the winter, when thousands of pelicans and cormorants, as well as numerous other bird species, roam the area.
If you don't have your own transportation, trips to the park can be arranged in Saint Louis 45 km to the south. Saint Louis is also the best place to stay when visiting the area, although it is possible to camp in the park.
