The Pais Vasco (Euskadi in Basque) has a completely autochthonous culture, including a language of its own. The origins of the Basque language are quite mysterious and it doesn't resemble any other language on earth. The region's culture and folklore are autochthonous too. You might see for example particular sports like pelota Vasca (Basque ball).
The Pais Vasco is one of the most industrialized regions in Spain. Despite of that there are still many areas of almost untouched nature, notably the natural parks of Valderejo, Urkiola, Urdaibai and the magical landscapes along the Guernica River. The region is great for hiking, horse-riding, golf and all sorts of mountain sports. Other attractions include the steep Cantabrian coast and the towns and cities of Bermeo, Bilbao, Guernica, San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz. Don't forget to bring a raincoat, when visiting the region, to be protected from the txirimiri, the typical very fine rain.
