Pamir Highway

One of the most hair-raising and spectacular roads through Pamirs is the M41 Pamir Highway between Khorog and Osh, 360 km to the north in Kyrgyzstan. The surroundings are very scenic and especially crossing the 4655 m (15,270 feet) high Ak-Baital pass is absolutely spectacular. The total route will take several days, as large parts of the road are often ripped away by landslides and avalanches, leaving only narrow, deeply rutted tracks of frozen mud.

If you are planning to travel this road it's best to do so by 4WD vehicle. There is no accommodation in the area.
