Pemba

Pemba sits on a large bay, some 1570 km northeast of Maputo. In the lively old town (Baixa) you will find some interesting architecture. Beautiful wood carvings can be bought at one of the small Makonde workshops on the road between the coty and the beaches.

There are some good beaches in Pemba, especially Wimbi Beach, 5 km (3 miles) east of town is a popular spot. There is a coral reef not far out that provides excellent snorkeling and scuba diving possibilities.

There is a wide range of accommodation in town, as well as many restaurants, bars and nightclubs. There are also many places where boats can be rented to go fishing or diving. You can get to Pemba by bus or by rented car.
