Plymouth
Plymouth was the capital of Montserrat. It used to have an appealing West Indian flavor, but, when the Soufrière Hills Volcano ended four centuries of virtual dormancy and exploding into life, large parts of Montserrat were evacuated and Plymouth became a ghost town. After more eruptions in mid-1997, the town was reduced to an ash heap.
There is nothing left of Plymouth and the unpredictability of the volcano makes Montserrat a dangerous and unlikely destination for many years to come.
