Pulau Seribu

The archipelago of Pulau Seribu, which means Thousand Islands, lies in the Java Sea, 60 km north of Jakarta. Despite its name, Pulau Seribu consists of only 112 islands, most of which are undeveloped. Many of the islands boast beautiful, deserted beaches and excellent sites for scuba diving. Day trips to several islands, such as Pulau Damar, Pulau Tikus and Pulau Pari, are available from Jakarta.

On the archipelago's northern fringe are the islands of Pulau Putri, Pulau Pelangi, Pulau Perak and Pulau Papa Theo, which have been turned into expensive tropical resorts and are collectively known as Pulau Seribu Paradise.

Accommodation is available on several of the developed islands only.
