Ra's al-Khaimah is the northernmost of the UAE's seven emirates. It is situated in one of the country's most beautiful natural surroundings. The area is irrigated with fresh water from the nearby mountains. You will find this one of the greenest places in the country.
The city of Ra's al-Khaimah is very easy going. There is a huge area with narrow streets, lined with small shops, mostly ran by Indian expatriates. The town also has a small fishing port and an interesting souk. The town's museum is also worth a visit.
About 5 km (3 miles) north of Ra's al-Khaimah is the town of Shimal where the interesting archeological site of the Queen of Sheba Palace can be visited.
Accommodation is scarce, but restaurants and food stalls are scattered all over town. Everything is closed between 1 PM and 4 PM or so, including all restaurants.
Ra's al-Khaimah lies on the coast, 90 km northeast of Dubai.
