Serra do Centro

Serra do Centro forms the eastern part of Porto Santo. It boasts arid landscapes with cattle-grazed slopes. Terraces, abandoned farmhouses and threshing floors are all that remain of communities that long ago gave up the struggle to scratch a living from the thin soil. The government has constructed several reservoirs and planted trees in an effort to restore life to the region
