Silhouette Island got its name, because it is a large, dark, granite block the rises steeply out of the sea. Especially at sunset it looks mysteriously dark and eerie. The island has marvelous beaches that are protected by a reef, which makes them excellent for snorkeling. There are several caves on the island that can be explored and Silhouette's three peaks can be climbed. At the top of Mont Pot à Eau you can see the carnivorous pitcher plant.
The population of Silhouette Island stands at about 450. There is very little accommodation on the island. You can get there by boat or helicopter from Mahé Island. Organized tours are also available there.
