The Snowy Mountains are situated in the southwestern part of New South Wales (NSW). They are the highest section of Australia's Great Dividing Range, culminating in 2228 m high Mount Kosciusko, the region's highest peak.
Most of the Snowy Mountains are included in the 6,900 km² large Kosciusko National Park, the largest protected area in New South Wales (NSW), which stretches from the border with Victoria to the ACT.
All of NSW's ski resorts lie in the rugged alpine Snowy Mountains. They include Thredbo, Perisher Valley, Smiggins Hole and Mount Blue Cow. The mountains' main town is Jindabyne, on the shores of a beautiful lake, not far outside the Kosciusko National Park's boundary. There are many caves, glacial lakes and forests in the Snowy Mountains.
During the summer the region are very popular with bush walkers, who come to enjoy the wide variety of alpine wildflowers and the marvelous views.
Accommodation is available in most of towns throughout the Snowy Mountains.
