Soraksen is South Korea's most spectacular national park. It boasts high mountains, green forests, waterfalls, white water rivers, beautiful beaches and countless ancient temples. The best time to visit Soraksen is during autumn, when the leaves are changing color.
Because of its beauty, the park is extremely popular and it is always quite busy with visitors. The Inner Sorak in the western part of the park is quieter, because it requires some effort to get there. Hiking is excellent in Soraksen National Park. The Osaek Hot Springs in South Sorak boast luxurious rooms to relax for a few days. Soraksen Park's highest peak is Taech'onbong. You can hike up there to enjoy some marvelous views of the surrounding area. Nearby Kwonkumsong also offers good views and that mountain's peak can be reached by cable car.
In Outer Sorak, at Osaek Springs and Sorak-dong is a camp-site, as well as other accommodation. The area around Osaek Springs and Sorak-dong is the busiest region in the park.
Most accommodation is concentrated on Osaek Springs and Sorak-dong, while several shelters are scattered all over the park. If you bring your own tent you can set it up anywhere you like. Soraksen National Park is 125 km northeast of Seoul and served by direct buses from the capital.
