The southeast of China is dominated by natural wonders. Some parts of the region include some of China's major tourist destinations, but large areas are difficult to access and in some provinces only few people speak English, which puts off many people from exploring the region.
The most interesting parts of southern China are in the culturally and geographically divers Yunnan province. Yunnan's climate is very mild. The best hiking possibilities are along the Guangxi-Guizhou provinces' borders.
All the provincial capitals in southeastern China have flight connections with Beijing. Trains connect many places throughout the region and are much more comfortable than buses. It is possible to cross overland into Vietnam via Pingxiang in the Guangxi province. Local transportation is usually very crowded and in many places it is better to rent a bike and explore.
