Suhar (Sohar)

Suhar is the place where fictional hero Sinbad the sailor had his home. Around 1000, Suhar was about three times its current size and Oman's largest city, but its importance and size have since diminished. The city's major sight is Suhar Fort, a large, rectangular building with a single tower rising from its courtyard. Its white color is unique in Oman, as most other forts in the country are earth-colored.

There are several hotels and restaurants in Suhar. The city is on the Batinah Coast, 210 km northwest of Masqat.
