Tortola is the most visited of the British Virgin Islands. It boasts excellent beaches and most hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and banks, as well as the customs offices are there. Road Town, the capital of the British Virgin Islands, is also located on Tortola. Other interesting places on the island include Great Carrot Bay, the JR O'Neal Botanic Gardens and the small BVI Folk Museum.
Despite of these sights, most people come to Tortola for its bays and beaches, the best of which are Cane Garden Bay, Smugglers Cove and Brewers Bay. In the southwest of Tortola is Sage Mountain National Park, which provides nice views of the surrounding islands, although not from the summit of 521 m high Mount Sage, as dense scrub blocks the views.
There are numerous hotels on Tortola. Every town on the island offers accommodation and restaurants. Tortola is the largest of the British Virgin Islands.
