uMgungundlovu
uMgungundlovu was the royal capital of the Zulu King Dingane. It is the town where Piet Retief and other Voortrekkers were killed by forces of King Dingane in 1838. This event was one of the sparks that ignited the Battle of the Blood River.
There is very little accommodation in town. uMgungundlovu (sometimes referred to as Ungungundhlovu) is 430 km southeast of Pretoria, not far from Ulundi.
