The Western and Anarvon group includes more than 100 small islands in the western part of Isabel Province. None of the islands are permanently inhabited and many are not much more than rocks, barely rising above sea level. The region has the Solomon's most attractive waterways, as well as some of the best fishing in the world. The archipelago is also home to the world's largest nesting ground for the endangered hawksbill turtle. These grounds have been protected since 1995 and visitors are always welcome to accompany staff on regular turtle-monitoring trips.
Accommodation can be arranged by the people that run the turtle-monitoring trips and the best way to get around is by canoe, which are available at Wagina Island in Choiseul Province. The Western and Anarvon Islands are about 280 km (175 miles) northwest of Honiara.
