Wotje Atoll

Wotje is the main island of Wotje Atoll. On Wotje one can see huge structures looming out of the jungle. The Japanese built them during their occupation of the atoll in WWII. Some of the structures have been bombed out, while others are still habitable. Other WWII relics include a large Japanese gun that can still be moved on its pivot and countless wrecks that lie on the bottom of the lagoon and provide excellent wreck diving possibilities.

Wotje boasts several nice beaches, but those on the nearby smaller islands are even better. When the tide is low, you can walk right over to them. Wotje is locally known as the 'Marshallese garden center', as most of the Marshall's agricultural produce is grown there. During WWII the Japanese shipped tons of top soil from Japan to Wotje, making it one of the Marshall's most fertile islands.

There are several hotels and restaurants on Wotje. The atoll is 285 km northwest of Majuro.
