York
York has been the capital of northern England for almost 2000 years. It was an important place under the Romans, Saxons and Vikings and it boasts a magnificent Gothic cathedral, medieval city walls and old streets. York Minster is the largest cathedral in Europe and the Museum Gardens belong to the most beautiful in the U.K. Scattered throughout the gardens are numerous ruins and picturesque buildings.
There are many hotels, pubs and restaurants in York, but accommodation can be hard to find sometimes, as the city is always very full with tourists and pilgrims. York is 285 km north of London.
