The resort of Ālǐshān Xiāng is high in the mountains of Central Taiwan. Many locals get up every morning at 4 AM for the traditional dawn climb of Chushan. From the mountain the views of the clouds beneath you are absolutely stunning. A train covers the 9 km (5.5 mi) from Alishan to Monkey Rock.

Taiwan's highest peak, 3,952 m (12,963 feet) high Yu Shan is only 30 km east of Ālǐshān. You will need to get a class A mountain permit in order to be allowed to attempt the climb.

The town is better avoided during the weekend, when thousands come to have a peek at sunrise over Mount Chushan.

Ālǐshān is also the base for people who go trekking into Taiwan's highlands, as well as mountain climber that aim to conquer Yu Shan. The highlands are known for their stunning rock formations.

Taiwan's talles water fall is the Jiao Lung Waterfall, which is also located in Ālǐshān.

The Ālǐshān National Scenic Area is also located in the township.

There are many hotels and restaurants in Ālǐshān, but most of them are quite expensive. Ālǐshān is served by bus from Tai-pei and several other large cities. You can also get there by train from Běimén. Ālǐshān is 185 km south of T'aipei (Taipei).
