Al Ahmadi, or Al-Ahmadi, was founded in 1946 to house Kuwait's oil industry. The town was named after then emir Shaikh Ahmed. Nowadays Al-Ahmadi is largely owned by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) and entrance is only allowed to designated areas. It is largely occupied by refineries and other oil-related industries. The Oil Display Center in Al Ahmadi is a somewhat self-congratulatory introduction to KOC and Kuwait's oil business. There is a small, but nice public garden in Al-Ahmadi.

Accommodation is only available to KOC workers. Al Ahmadi is 30 km south of al-Kuwayt (Kuwait City).
