The Ali-Sadr Caves were discovered in the 1950s by a shepherd who was looking for one of his goats. The largest of the caves is 40 m (130 ft) high and there are several enormous lakes inside the caves. There are no signs that anyone has ever inhabited the caves, but they just look stunning. YOu have to pay an entrance fee to visit the caves in small boats.

There is some accommodation in the village of Ali-Sadr, but it is better to stay in Hamadan and take a minibus to the caves.

The caves are sometimes referred to as Ali Saadr or Ali Sard Caves. The site is about 260 km west of Tehran and 100 km (62 mi) north of Hamadan.
