Altun Ha is the location of an ancient Maya city. Paople from nearby villages had long used material from the archaeological site for the construction of their homes, before archaeologists started investigating the site in 1963.

The site includes several temples and pyramids, the largest of which is the Temple of the Masonry Altars. The temple is 16 m (52 ft) high and it features on the logo of the local beer brand called Belikin.

Altun Ha is located some 40 km east from Lamanai and 25 km east of Chau Hiix, close to the town of Maskall. The site is 50 km (31 mi) north of Belize City and 10 km (6.2 mi) west of the Caribbean coast.
