Amer (Amber)

The city of Amer, or Amber, sits on a lake, at the mouth of a rocky mountain gorge. It is very popular with travellers for its scenic location and its beautiful monuments. Some of the most interesting sites in Amer include:

Amer fort (Amber Fort) is famous for its artistic style elements, which include large ramparts and a series of gates and cobbled paths. The fort overlooks Maota Lake, which is the main source of water for Amer palace. In 2013, Amer Fort was declared a UNESCO world heritage site.
Amer Palace is great example of Rajput architecture.
Jagat Shiromani Temple is also known as the Meera Bai temple. It is a Hindu temple not far from the Amer fort. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu gods Meera bai, Krishna and Vishnu. It was constructed between 1599 and 1608. The temple is renowned for its intricate marble carvings and serene ambiance, the temple showcases exquisite craftsmanship and spiritual significance, attracting both devotees and tourists seeking cultural and architectural marvels.
Jaigarh Fort is situated on a promontory known as the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles), overlooking the Amer Fort and Maota Lake. The fort was built by Mirza Raja Jai Singh in 1726 to protect the Amer Fort and its palace complex and was named after him.
Maota Lake sits at the base of Amer Fort. In ancient times the lake was known as 'Mahavata', but it is commonly known as Maota due to the large trees, known as maota, located near the lake.
Nahargarh Biological Park is home to species whose numbers have declined over the years, such as the Indian leopard. The flora in the park is representative of the Khathiar-Gir dry deciduous forests ecoregion.
Panna Meena ka Kund is a stepwell, also known as vavs or baori. A stepwell is a well, cistern or pond with a long corridor of steps that descend to the water level. Stepwells played a significant role in defining subterranean architecture in western India from the 7th to the 19th century.
