Anjouan is locally known as Ndzuani, Ndzuwani, or Nzwani. It is a very beautiful volcanic island in the Indian Ocean. Though it has forests and rivers and fields full of exotic flowers, it is also the most densely populated island in Comoros.

The people live in numerous tiny villages rather than in one bigger agglomeration. The island's mayor problems are deforestation and soil erosion.

• Anjouan's capital is Mutsamudu.
• The Citadel of Mutsamudu serves as the city's market.
• Domoni features a very interesting old town, known as Hari ya Moudji, where you can see many old, decaying palaces that were constructed by 16th to 18th century sultans. The people who inhabit the palaces nowadays are descendants of these sultans.
• The Dziancoundré Waterfall is not far from Mutsamudu.
• The Mausoleum of President Ahmed Abdallah is located in the town of Domoni.
• Mount Ntringui National Park includes Dzialandze Lake and Mount Ntringui.
• The region of Sima features numerous farms, where perfume plants are grown. These flowers have given Comoros their nickname.
• The Tratringa Waterfalls sit in the Bambao River at the town of Bambao Mtrouni.
• At the town of Moya is a nice beach. The nearby Moya Pass is used by children to ride down on soapboxes.
• At Domoni you can see the Jomani River and Cap Mangeat.
• The Tratringua Waterfall is located at Ongoni-Marahani.
• The Wall of Momoni (uhura wa muji) is located in Domoni.
• The best white-sand beaches can be found at Chiroroni.
• The Ylang-Ylang Distillery is located in Bamboa Mtrouni.

Anjouan is very popular for hiking, though if you like snorkeling or scuba diving, the coral reefs around the island are very interesting.

It is easy to get to Anjouan, as there are plenty flights from Moroni to Mutsamudu. The island also has boat services to the other islands in Comoros. The best way to get around on the island itself is by share-taxi, taxi-brousse, or rented car. Anjouan is the second largest island in Comoros and its highest point is 1,575 m.
