Aviemore is a good place to stay if you want to visit the hiking and skiing paradise of the Cairngorm Mountains. This area sits on the only arctic plateau in the U.K. and is home to several rare animals species, such as deer, osprey, pine marten, red squirrel and wildcat.
The water of the Spey River and the surrounding lochs is very clean and it is popular to go there for salmon fishing. In the Rothiemurchus Estate and Glenmore Forest Park preserve, guided walks through the huge spruce- and pine forests are avialable.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Aviemore. The town is located within the Cairngorms National Park, 680 km northwest of London.
