Beni is a good place to stay if you want to explore the Ruwenzori Mountains from the Democratic Republic of the Congo side, although most people do that from the Uganda side. It is also close to Virunga National Park. Beni is 1685 km northeast of Kinshasa, close to the border with Uganda.There are several hotels and restaurants in town, as well as shops that can supply you with everything you need for treks into the mountains. Also don't forget to try the local spirit, made from sorghum and bananas.
