Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves (柏孜克里克千佛洞)
The Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves (柏孜克里克千佛洞, Bózīkèlǐkè Qiānfódòng) is a complex of Buddhist cave grottos. The caves date from the 5th to the 14th centuries. The caves were cut out of the cliffs in the west Mutou Valley under the Flaming Mountains.
There are 77 rock-cut caves at the site, all of which feature a mural of the Buddha.
The caves are located in the northeast of the Taklamakan Desert, not far from the ancient ruins of Gaochang. The site is between the cities of Turpan and Shanshan (Loulan).
