Bloomington is in the south of Indiana. It was first settled in 1818 by a group of settlers from Kentucky. The city's economy has long been sustained by the quarrying and marketing of the limestone that is abundant in the surrounding area. Electrical and electronic equipment, furniture and elevators are manufactured in Bloomington. It is the seat of Indiana University and the city's growth is closely related to the development of that institution. In the area are Hoosier National Forest and lakes Monroe and Lemon. The former is the largest lake in Indiana.
There are several hotels and restaurants in Bloomington. The city is 75 km southwest from Indianapolis and 820 km southwest from Washington D.C.
