The Bui National Park was established in 1971. It covers 1,821 km² of savanna in the west of Ghana. The park is known for its large hippopotamus population that lives in the Black Volta river.
In 2007, the Bui Dam was constructed, forming a lake that partially inundated parts of the park.
The towns closest to Bui National Park are Nsawkaw, Wenchi and Techiman. The park is about 350 km northwest from Accra.
