Car Nicobar Island

Car Nicobar, or Pū, is the northernmost of the Nicobar Islands, which is part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The name Car Nicobar might come from local sea farers, who used to refer to the island as 'northern land of the nake', which is 'Car Nakkavar' in the local language.

The village of U-rèk-ka, or Malacca, serves as administrative capital of the island.

In 2004, the island was damaged by a large tsunami that was caused by an earthquake off the coast of nearby Indonesia.
