Daejeon, or Taejon, is the capital of South Korea's South Ch'ungch'ŏng province, as well as an important railroad hub and transport center for the region. The city sits in an agricultural region, but there are also numerous heavy industries, such as the manufacture of chemicals, machines and textiles, silk processing, brick making, food processing and railway repairs.

There are many museums in Daejeon. Some of the most interesting ones are the following: Daejeon Museum of Art houses technology-oriented modern and contemporary exhibitions. Lee Ungno Museum has a collection focused on Korean artist Lee Ungno. The Geological Museum is also worth a visit. The National Science Museum is housed in Expo Science Park. It features exhibitions highlighting harmony between nature, man and technology, as well as exhibitions on natural history, future technology and biosphere. It includes a children's science museum and an astronomical observatory. Another observatory is Daejeon Citizen's Observatory.

Daejeon has many nice parks and a zoo. Songnisan National Park is north of Daejeon.

Not far from town are several nice hot springs. Daejeon is surrounded by agricultural land and forested hills. The city was originally a collection of small villages on the Geum River. The villages slowly grew to become Daejeon.

There are many hotels and restaurants in Daejeon. The city is 140 km south of Seoul.
