George Town
George Town is a modern place with a truly Caribbean atmosphere. It is located on the western coast of Grand Cayman Island. The city is not very big and can easily be explored on foot. Walking tours are available that take you along some of the most interesting sites.
Points of interest
- The remains of Fort George, which was built at the end of the 18th century.
- The Cayman Islands National Museum is housed in George Town's oldest building and it is one of the best museums in he region. It includes exhibits on Grand Cayman Island's human and natural history.
- At the Cayman Maritime Treasure Museum you can learn everything about the Cayman Islands' seafaring history.
- The whitewashed Elmslie Memorial United Church was built in the 1920s on the site of an earlier Anglican Church that was destroyed by a hurricane in 1838.
- Not far from town, stretching along West Bay, is Seven Mile Beach with its beautiful white sand. It is a good place to go scuba diving.
There are several hotels and restaurants in George Town, as well as numerous shops. George Town is the capital and largest city in the Cayman Islands.
