Hohhot

Hohhot, which means 'blue city', is the capital of Inner Mongolia. It is a very large city that used to be called Kweisu. There are only a few sites of interest, including Ming and Qing era buddhist temples. Some of the most notable ones include:
- Zhaojun Tomb (昭君墓), thought to be the tomb of a queen named Wang Zhaojun
- Baita Pagoda (白塔), from the Liao dynasty and namesake for the city's airport.
- Da Zhao Temple (大召)is the oldest buddhist lama monastery in Hohhot. It was built during the Yuan dynasty.
- The Temple of the Five Pagodas (五塔寺) from the Qing dynasty boasts some 1,500 Buddha depictions on its walls.
- The residence of Gurun Princess Kejing (固倫恪靖公主府) was constructed during the Qing dynasty.
- Residence of the General (將軍衙署) was also built during the same period. It was the residence for Suiyuan Generals.
- The great mosaue of Hohhot (清真大寺) dates from the same period.
- The Inner Mongolia Museum (内蒙古博物院) has an interesting cillection of dinosaur fossils.
- A nice place to escape the bustle of the city is Qingcheng Park (青城公园).
- The monument to Genghis Khan features a statue of this leader.
Accommodation is widely available in town. There are also countless café's and restaurants. Hohhot is 405 km west of Beijing.
