Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls is the main city in Idaho's extensively irrigated upper Snake valley. It is the prosperous commercial and processing center of a livestock, dairy and farm region, where potatoes, wheat, sugar beets and seed peas are grown.

The manufacture of concrete, steel and lumber are the main industrial activity. The nearby Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, a national reactor testing station, is also a principal source of employment, while tourism is important since the city is located in the vicinity of several national parks and major recreational areas.

Idaho Falls was originally a miner's fording point. It was first settled by Mormons in 1864.
