Volcán Illiniza (Illiniza Volcano)
The volcano of Illiniza consists of 2 volcanic mountains. They are included in the Reserva Ecológica Los Illinizas (Illinizas Ecological Reserve). Illiniza Sur (Illiniza South) is 5,245 m high and Illiniza Norte (Illiniza North) stands at 5,126 m.
Both peaks can be climbed. Illiniza Norte is the easiest, but a guide is recommended. There is a refuge between the 2 peaks, but you will has to bring your own food and sleeping bags.
Illiniza is in the Andes mountains, 70 km southwest of Quito.
