Malolo Lailai translates as Little Malolo and it is also known as Plantation Island. It is the second-largest island of Fiji's Mamanuca Islands. Malolo Lailai is the main center of tourism in the archipelago.
The island fell into private ownership after the local Nadroga chief Ratu Kini sold it to John Thomson in 1872. He planned to use it for a cotton plantation. It was sold on several times and it has been a coconut plantation, but in the 1970s, Malolo Lailai was developed into a tourist resort.
Nowadays, the island features 4 resorts, several restaurants, a variety of accommodation, a marina and a golf course.
In the northwest, Malolo Lailai is connected to the larger island of Malolo Levu via a small isthmus that emerges during low tide. You can also get there from Denarau by boat, or from Nadi International Airport by air.
Malolo Lailai is 20 km west of Nadi.
