Mount Karthala (القرطالة)
Mount Karthala is also referred to as Karthola, or Al Qirṭālah. It is about 10 km (6 mi) northwest of the Comoros' capital of Moroni. The volcano is 2,361 m (7,746 ft) high. it is an active volcano and it erupts every 11 years on average.
During periods of inactivity, the volcano can be climbed and the views from its summit are absolutely stunning.
Parts of the volcano are included in the Karthala National Park, which was established in 2010 to protect 26 ha (0.26 km⊃2) of the mountain.
