Mutsamudu is the capital of the island of Anjouan or as it's called by the locals, Ndzuani. The town is surrounded by two parallel 'main streets'. They are connected by numerous small streets and alleyways lined with small shops and buildings that are mostly erected in beautiful Arab architecture. Some of the sights in the town include the Mosquée du Vendredi and the nearby Sultan's Palace. Not far from town is the beautiful Dziancoundré Waterfall.

Mutsamudu has about 10,000 inhabitants. It is connected to Moroni by air. Mutsamudu is about 175 km southeast of Moroni on the northern coast of Anjouan. There are various hotels and restaurants in the town.
