The Hoge Veluwe is the largest national park of The Netherlands. It covers some 5,500 hectares of forests, woods, sand dunes and heath moors in the center of the country.

The park can be accessed by bicycle, or on foot and it is home to red deer, wild boar, wolf and the Mediterranean mouflon sheep, as well as numerous smaller mammals such as foxes and rabbits. The park has a wide variety of birds as well.

The national park was established in 1935. Inside the park is the Kröller-Müller Museum, where you can see almost 300 paintings by Vincent van Gogh and several works of Picasso and Mondriaan. The museum gardens feature numerous sculptures by Rodin, Moore and Giacometti, amongst others. They form Europe's largest sculpture garden.

The Hoge Veluwe can be reached by public transport from various places in The Netherlands. Once inside the park, bikes are available free of charge.

The park is some 75 km east of Amsterdam and it is the only national park in The Netherlands, where an entrance fee has to be paid.
