Nosy Boraha is a beautiful island that lies on the eastern side of Madagascar, off the coast from Soanierana Ivongo. It is a lot less developed than Nosy Bé. The main town on the island is Ambodifototra, which has both air and ferry connections with Madagascar itself. The ferries run between Ambodifototra and Toamasina.

In 1986 most of Ambodifototra was destroyed by a cyclone, but it has been rebuilt. Luckily, Madagascar's oldest church, which is located in Ambodifototra, was not damaged.

Nosy Boraha is known for its authentic character and there is almost no traffic on the island. There is one bus that runs from the airport to Ambodifototra and there are a few cars that bring guests to and from the hotels. You can rent bikes to explore the island, but it is small enough to do that walking as well.

The channel between Nosy Boraha and Madagascar is a good spot for whale watching. Nosy Boraha has some nice beaches. The only museum on the island is the Ilot Madame Museum.

There are some hotels scattered all over the island. At the south of Nosy Boraha is another small island called Île aux Nattes. You can ask fishermen if they can bring you there in their dugout canoes. On Île aux Nattes is also some accommodation available. Nosy Boraha is about 330 km northeast of Antananarivo.
